FROM TRAIL TO RESALE, YOU CAN COUNT ON A JEEP

2021-04-12
While the Jeep Wrangler’s capabilities off the beaten path routinely have it at the top of the list for those looking for an ultra-capable off-roader as their new car, there’s more to the Wrangler’s value proposition than its off-road chops.
Just last year, the automotive valuation experts at Kelley Blue Book (KBB) predicted that the four-door Wrangler and its two-door sibling would hold spots one and three, respectively, on their list of which 2020 off-road vehicles would hold the best resale values after five years of ownership. The Toyota 4Runner split the two to claim second spot on the list. KBB estimated that the Wrangler four-door would maintain 57.6% of its value after five years while you can bet on the two-door model selling for 51% of its original sticker price over that same span.

KBB pointed to the 2020 Wrangler as “the most capable, most comfortable and most diverse iteration ever to wear the iconic Wrangler label.” Qualities like the superior performance of its off-road system as well as its ability to work as a perfectly competent companion on the road helped it earn the prestigious laurels.
Also listed by KBB as strong resale factors were the luxury features inside the cabin (such as heated seats and Uconnect infotainment) as well as better brake and steering feedback – pretty impressive stuff for a vehicle that has always made its name through its off-road chops.
Which, of course, the Trail Rated Wrangler has as well as noted by KBB on a trek they did as part of their testing. And we’re not talking a quick jaunt off the beaten path, oh no; KBB actually took a brace of Wranglers on a proper trek through what they describe as “the wilds of New Zealand” and indeed, anybody who has seen any of the filmed-in-New-Zealand The Lord of the Rings films will know that some of the terrain there is not for the faint of heart.
Well, the Wrangler evidently didn’t suffer from such an affliction as everything KBB threw at it was taken in stride by both the four-cylinder turbo and Pentastar V6 options. Also given high praise were the Wrangler’s Tru-Lok locking front and rear differentials, as they made passage over slick terrain, rough terrain and everything in-between hardly a challenge for the Wrangler, according to KBB.
All this before we even get to talking about the style and accessories that make the Wrangler the Wrangler; the removable doors and top, the signature round headlamps and 7-slot grille and the ability to carry four adults in relative comfort to the surf spot or the trailhead are what make the Wrangler a Jeep in the truest sense even 5, 10, 15 or 20 years down the road.
