SIX FEATURES THAT MAKE JEEP VEHICLES UNSTOPPABLE OFF-ROAD

2021-04-12
When someone is thinking “off-road”, often they’re thinking Jeep. It has been the brand’s calling card for decades and as time marches on, Jeep does as well, constantly innovating and refining to make sure they keep meeting the high standards they’ve become known for.
Here are just some of the reasons why Jeeps are unstoppable off-road.

Rock-Trac 4x4, Command-Trac 4x4 and Selec-Trac 4x4 on Wrangler and Gladiator

The Rock-Trac heavy-duty part-time 4x4 system is available on both the 2021 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon and 2021 Jeep Gladiator Rubicon, and it makes use of Tru-Lok electronic locking front and rear differentials, brake lock differential and front sway bar disconnect to ensure that your progress over rugged terrain is as confidence-inspiring as easy. It also includes an off-road transfer case with a 4:1 low-gear ratio, allowing drivers to inch over the toughest obstacles at a consistent 0.8 km/h.
Command-Trac is all about rock climbing, made evident by the NV241 GII transfer case that provides a 2.72:1 low range and the ability to switch from 2WD to 4WD HI at up to 72 km/h, so you never have to waste time waiting for engagement. A 50/50 torque split is also available in four-lock.
Selec-Trac 4x4 is an available full-time system that will automatically switch between 2WD and 4WD depending on driving conditions. Taking a drive to an out-of-town hockey game? 2WD it is, but if conditions start to get slick on the way, Selec-Trac knows it and will automatically select 4WD to reduce slip.

Keeping it Short

When it comes to off-roading, less is often more – with the exception of your ride height, of course. You want shorter overhangs for better departure and approach angles, less weight to ensure you have less to haul out of tricky spots and less space between the wheels for optimized manoeuverability. All Jeep vehicles have received off-road-minded steering wheel tuning and wheelbase geometry, to make sure even the tightest situations are no match for a Jeep.

Mighty Movement

One thing you definitely don’t want less of when it comes to off-roading, however, is wheel articulation. Jeep models are tuned with features like solid axles, electronic sway bar disconnect and flexible suspension to ensure as much traction as possible.

Clearing the Ground

Every Trail Rated Jeep product is built with optimal ground clearance in mind, helping ensure that your Jeep can conquer most any path, no matter how dotted with rocks, berms and fallen logs. In addition to being able to clear objects, each Trail Rated Jeep has also been engineered to maximize approach, and departure breakover angles.

Clearing the Stream

What if the obstacles in your path become less about dry rocks, and more about wet riverbeds? Well, your Jeep has you covered there as well with extra sealing around electrical connections and body openings, as well as high-positioned air intake vents.

Dana 44 Axles

On the most hardcore vehicles such as the Gladiator Rubicon, Mojave and Wrangler Rubicon, both the front and rear axles are of the Dana 44 variety. The Dana 44 axle has been doing duty for over 75 years and is loved thanks to its robustness and capability.
This is just a glimpse of what makes the 2021 Jeep vehicle lineup so impressive in off-road conditions. Each Jeep vehicle is different, but it will get you where you need to go, there is no doubt about that.
