TOWING WITH A JEEP GLADIATOR IS CHILD'S PLAY

2021-02-12
If you are interested in purchasing the 2021 Jeep® Gladiator and are wondering what can be towed with this vehicle? The following should be of interest to you as we take a look at the towing possibilities with this model.

Two Engines, Many Different Capacities

The 2021 Jeep® Gladiator can accommodate two separate powertrains. Standard on the 2021 Gladiator is the company's 3.6-litre PentastarTM V-6 engine, which produces 285 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. It can be mated to a six-speed manual transmission (standard) or an eight-speed automatic transmission (optional, but standard on the 80th Anniversary and High Altitude versions).
Then, a diesel powertrain is offered, a 3.0-litre EcoDiesel V-6 with ESS that delivers 260 horsepower and 442 lb.-ft. of torque. An eight-speed automatic transmission is paired with it.
Each powertrain offers different towing capacities, but it also varies according to the gearbox available, as well as the version of the model offered, since some of them don't offer the same axle ratios and configurations (design, equipment, 4x4 system, etc.).
Let's look at this together.

Sport S

With the Sport S, this is where you'll find the largest towing capacity, at 7,650 pounds (3,469 kg). It's available with the 3.6-litre Pentastar V-6 engine and the towing package that features a 240-amp alternator, Class IV hitch, and a heavy-duty engine cooling system for the engine and more. The axle ratio of this variant is also 4.10. Without the towing package and an axle ratio of 3.73, the capacity is 4,500 pounds (2,041 kg) . With the manual transmission, it is 4,000 pounds (1,814 kg). And if you opt for a Sport S version equipped with a diesel engine, you'll enjoy a capacity of 6,500 pounds (2,948 kg) (with a 3.73 axle ratio).

Overland

With the Overland, the only difference is the 3.6-litre engine with automatic transmission. Because its axle ratio is 3.73 instead of 4.10, its capacity is 6,000 pounds (2,721 kg) instead of 7,650 (3,469 kg).

Mojave

Moving up to the Mojave model, the 3.6-litre engine has an axle ratio of 4.10. In the end, we get away with the possibility of 4,500 pounds (2,041 kg) with the manual transmission, then 6,000 pounds (2,721 kg) with the automatic transmission.
Diesel-powered versions still offer the same capacity at 6,500 pounds (2,948 kg).

Rubicon

In the case of the Rubicon version, there is also an axle ratio of 4.10 with the 3.6-litre engine. With the manual transmission, it is possible to tow 4,500 pounds (2,041 kg) , while 7,000 pounds (3,175 kg) can be towed to models equipped with the automatic transmission.
With the diesel engine, the limit is 6,000 pounds (2,721 kg) .
