TOWING WITH THE JEEP RENEGADE: WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

2021-02-12
The Jeep® Renegade may be the smallest product in the Jeep family, but don't tell him. The Renegade offers impressive off-road capabilities with the Trailhawk® version, and on top of that, it thinks it's a larger SUV with impressive towing capacity for its size.

In fact, whether you opt for the Trawilhawk equipped with the 1.3-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine (177 horsepower and 210 lb.-ft. of torque) or equipped with the 2.4-litre 4-cylinder engine (180 horsepower and 175 lb-ft of torque), the capacity is the same at 2,000 pounds, or 907 kg. A nine-speed automatic transmission is mated to these two engines.
Please note that when choosing the Sport front-wheel drive version, towing is not recommended.

Required Equipment

To be sure you can tow with your Renegade, you'll need to select the Trailer Tow Package, which is offered at a very competitive price. It provides a Class III hitch, as well as a four-way power harness. With this equipment installed, you'll be ready to hitch up whatever you want in the back.

What Can You Pull With 2,000 Pounds (907 kg)?

If you're wondering what can be towed with a 2,000-pound (907 kg) capacity, imagine a small boat, a tent-trailer or a platform where you can set up your snowmobile, watercraft or ATV. And if you're worried about not being able to pack gear inside once you reach the towing limit, keep in mind that the Renegade has a load capacity of just over 1,000 pounds (454 kg). So, there is nothing to worry about.

The Trailhawk® Variant

Finally, for the best possible result, the Trailhawk® may be worth considering, especially if you need to leave the unpaved roads to reach your destination. The Trailhawk benefits from the Selec-Terrain® traction management system with the Rock driving mode, as well as the Jeep® Active Drive Low 4x4 system, which features a crawl ratio of 21:1 to ensure better performance when negotiating inhospitable surfaces at low speeds.
