TOWING WITH THE 2021 JEEP CHEROKEE: YES, IT'S POSSIBLE!

2021-02-12
The 2021 Jeep® Cherokee is on your shopping list, but you're wondering about its towing capabilities? The following will answer your questions, as we look at what can be done with the various powertrains that are available on this model.

Standard Capacity

First of all, it is important to know that no matter which Cherokee model you are interested in, it is capable of towing a minimum of 907 kg, or 2,000 pounds. That's without the trailer hitch kit and only equipped with the Class II system found on the aftermarket.
However, when you add Jeep's Class III Towing Group, the model's capabilities increase tenfold.

2.4-Litre Engine

When the 2.4-litre I-4 engine sits under the hood, it's rated at 180 horsepower and 171 lb.-ft. of torque and has a capacity of 2,000 pounds (907 kg). This engine gets its work done with a nine-speed automatic transmission. It's also the same transmission as the other engines.

2-Litre Engine

Limited and Altitude models offer an available 2.0-litre inline four-cylinder turbocharged engine, a powerplant that offers 270 horsepower and 295 lb.-ft. of torque, towing capacity can be pushed to 4,000 pounds or 1,800 kg. Of course, the towing group must be selected as an option. The latter offers a 4- and 7-pin wiring harness, Class III hitch receiver, a full-size spare tire, a higher-capacity cooling system for the engine, as well as a trailer tow wiring harness.

3.2-Litre Engine

Finally, with the 3.2-litre PentastarTM V-6 engine, which produces 271 horsepower and 239 lb.-ft. of torque, the 2021 Jeep Cherokee can tow up to 4,500 pounds or 2,041 kg. The Trailer Tow Group is also required, of course.
As you've just seen, the 2021 Jeep Cherokee offers more towing capacity than its competitors. It also offers more when it comes to going off the paved roads, with 4x4 systems that are unmatched in the industry in their class.
That's why if you're looking for a compact SUV with towing capability, the 2021 Jeep Cherokee is the one to turn to.
