FIVE JEEP FEATURES THAT HELP IN WINTER

2021-03-03
Winter driving is something Canadians know very well. Every year we have to adapt our driving style when winter comes around, keeping a safer distance with other vehicles and slowing down to account for snowy or icy roads. Although winter is part of life in Canada, there are features available on Jeep vehicles that make life quite a bit easier when Old Man Winter comes around.

Four-Wheel Drive

A four-wheel drive system is one of the biggest advantages drivers can give themselves in winter. 4x4 vehicles can use all four wheels to power the vehicle forward, improving traction on winding roads and helping extract the vehicle from a snowbank or climb a hill with more confidence.

Full-Time 4x4

Jeep vehicles have a variety of 4x4 systems depending on the model. These systems can be divided into two wide categories: Full-Time and Part-Time. A full-time system like the Jeep Wrangler’s available Selec-Trac Full-time 4WD system or the Jeep Grand Cherokee’s Quadra-Trac systems automatically activate 4x4 capability when needed, reacting to changing road conditions and offering the best traction with no driver involvement.

Traction Control and Electronic Stability Control

The Traction Control and Electronic Stability Control (ESC) systems use the brakes and engine torque to limit wheel spin when detected. This can ensure optimal grip when launching (Traction Control) or help prevent slippage when turning (ESC).

Heated Steering Wheel

The systems mentioned above help maintain traction and improve safety on the road. The available heated steering wheel (and available heated front seats) help improve comfort. If you have never experienced a heated steering wheel, you don’t know what you are missing. Available (and in some cases, standard) on every Jeep model, you will fall in love with your heated steering wheel, especially on those cold January mornings.

Winter Tires

Winter tires are mandatory in Quebec and British Columbia, but every Canadian should consider winter tires. They make a huge difference in braking distance, stability, and crawling capability in winter.
